Ingredients

1 pound cheese monte jack
10 or so garlic cloves
peanut oil
Italian seasoning blend
2 eggs
3/4 cup milk whipped with eggs
bread crumbs too

Peel garlic cloves.  Slice each lengthwise so that they look like slivered almonds.  Get oil hot in a saucepan.  Make it about 2″ deep in a nice pan.  Deep fry the garlic lightly.  Get them tan.  Dry them on paper towels.

Slice chz about 1/8″ thick.  Take half of the slices and spread tan garlic chips on them.  Sprinkle Italian seasoning on these and cover w/ another chz slice = a sandwich.  Dip each sand. in egg wash and then bread crumbs.  If you can get them to stay together they are ready to fry.

TIPS

This is a tricky and messy thing, but oh so very good.

  • Try microwaving the cheese sands so they stick together better.
  • Be careful not to fry too long or it is over – chz, hot oil, garlic…a mess!
  • You fry the garlic in the oil to give the oil flavor for the chz.  This is key.
  • Serve w/ marinara sauce for a nice hors’d.
