Ingredients

1 pound dark brown sugar
1 tablespoon nutmeg ground
750 ml quality dark rum
1 tablespoon cloves ground
1/2 pound butter
1 tablespoon cinnamon ground
1 tablespoon white cardamom ground

Makes 12 “Not exactly inconsequential” beverages.

The Batter:  Put everything except the rum in a food processor and run it until the mixture turns creamy.  Fold it down once with a rubber spatula to make sure the spices are blended in, and run the food processor some more.

The Drinks:  Fill mugs halfway with hot water.  Add about 2 generous tablespoons of batter.  Stir until the batter dissolves in the hot water.  Add 2 jiggers (about 3 oz.) of the best dark rum you can afford.  Stir well.  Microwave for a minute or so; stir again and enjoy!

The Straight Dope:  The batter will last in the fridge for months.  I’d suggest never making less than a full batch.
